What the Butler Saw is a comedy of manners that includes psychoanalysis, philandering, nymphomania, transvestism, and, of course, blackmail. Known as one of playwright Joe Orton’s funniest and most controversial works, it will be performed at Roger Williams University’s Performing Arts Center in July.

“It’s the wittiest play in the English language since The Importance of Being Earnest,” said Jeffrey Martin, director of What the Butler Saw.  “It’s Wilde with a black comedy twist.”  The cast includes Robin Stone as Dr. Prentice, Melanie Snow as Mrs. Prentice, Richard Wilber as Dr. Rance, Danya Martin as Geraldine, and Chad Morin as Nick.

Performances will run July 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 and each will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Performing Arts Center is located on the Roger Williams University’s Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road.

Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. For reservations call the Theater Box Office at (401) 254-3666.  More information can be found online.
